Rodney Seale won't approve

In retrospective anticipation of Krizz's post on Die Taaldebat, I needed to stay with the theme and share another playlist of mine. My apologies (not really). If you want a true assessment of Afrikaans music, go read this excellent snotstorie on watkykjy... it summarises the nauseating pain I experience every time I inadvertently switch on the TV and some CD entitled "Kielie My Mielie" or "Boks Is Bok Ou Bal" is being advertised. When that happens, even if it's only a glance, it's usually too late and the goatse effect takes hold. You cannot shake it, and you're worse for it.

The traumatising effect of these ads made me realise I need to find an outlet to deal with the agony, before it consumes me. So I created a playlist, call it an Anti-Sokkie playlist, which follows the same format: the bad puns, the chauvinist sexual innuendos, the promise that you'll really like dancing to this, and turns it inwards. I needed to find the yin to the yang, the Darth to the Anakin, the Wings of Desire to the City of Angels, to re-establish balance. I needed a serum to apply when Such a Thing appeared. I needed something to listen to, to exorcise the voices in my head.

I was further inspired by a story Thespian once told me about his ex-boss who holds dinner parties with very important guests and then puts on grating, discomforting music in the background to watch their reactions while he's happily chatting away. My hero.

I had one very important criterion for the playlist: I had to choose songs I really like; music I find beautiful. Otherwise there would be no redeeming effect to cleanse the filth.

As the seal, the final talisman, I made the CD cover below. Just in case I need to give it to someone as a present...

PS: Most excellent albums of the week:
  • Balkan Beat Box - Balkan Beat Box
  • Explosions in the Sky - How Strange, Innocence

  1. Fok, Rodney Seale het by ons skool kom praat! Ek moet actually 'n hele post daaroor doen.

Rodney".

  3. Nadat Rodney by ons skool was en so paar boeke verkwansel het, toe was die grootste tydverdryf om te sien wie kon spog met die meeste bands in die boek in hul musiekversameling.

  14. Undeniably believe that that you said. Your favourite reason seemed to be at the net the simplest thing to take into accout of.
I say to you, I certainly get annoyed whilst
other people think about worries that they plainly don't recognize about. You controlled to hit the nail upon the highest and outlined out the entire thing with no need side effect , other people could take a signal. Will likely be back to get more. Thanks
